My wife got a letter in the mail today:
First... I am not having and have not had any kind of extramarital affair. I don't even currently have any good friends who are women where the relationship might conceivably be misinterpreted. Which leaves:
Somebody is fucking with me.
I didn't think I had any enemies. No long standing feuds. I haven't fucked anybody over in recent memory. I don't think I'm a significant threat to anybody. I'm pretty low profile and drama free, as these things go, in a small community. I go to work. I go home. I go to the gym. During the winter I do a lot of skiing.
My only guess (and it's not a very good one) is that it might be somebody at work.... I did recently get a promotion. It wasn't something that anybody was competing with me for, even distantly; my boss had one department begin to report to me (who used to report to him) and gave me responsibility for another department whose manager was retiring. It doesn't seem like that would spur anybody to do this kind of thing, but people are crazy and often don't like change. I can't pinpoint a single person at work, though, who would do this OR who might benefit.
It could also be somebody fucking with my wife (me by extension).... but she's a stay at home mom. Makes even less sense.
What the fuck do I do now? My wife believes me when I tell her I'm not having an affair, but any little seed of doubt can do real damage. My biggest concern is that this doesn't end and whoever it is keeps doing this kind of stuff, but maybe instead they send letters to the board of my employer, or who knows what..... It doesn't seem like the police would give a shit about this kind of thing, but maybe just for documentation?
Give me some ideas, or at least enjoy my drama, cuz I'm fucking not.
