Driving out to the bay area over labor day weekend. Need to camp for two nights, sat and sun, over labor day weekend somewhere in the Sierra along the way. I know, terrible idea with no reservation. Camping in the sierra isn't the point of the trip, just a stop on the way to my destination. Primitive camping is fine, we're in a tent.
Driving from Colorado, I will be camping Friday night somewhere in the middle of Nevada. I need to be into Santa Rosa mid day Monday. So I have some flexibility on route. Yosemite seems like the worst choice with crowds, but maybe there is a sneak route I'm not aware of? Calaveras Big Trees sounds good, the park is full for reservations, but maybe I can camp nearby??
I could also just motor on to Santa Rosa and spend the weekend in Sonoma area, but I doubt that will be any easier for camping. Plus I was kinda stoked on seeing some sequoia trees or big granite walls.
thanks-
